High Season
Xi'an's high season runs from spring through autumn, typically April to early June and September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, with mild temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, creating ideal conditions for exploring. Upon arrival, you'll find the city bustling, with outdoor areas like the City Wall and parks full of activity.
The city's cultural rhythm peaks, with outdoor events and street life thriving. Locals and visitors alike enjoy evening strolls, and the atmosphere is lively and energetic. While the summer months of July and August can be hot and humid, reaching above 30°C, the extended daylight hours still encourage outdoor engagement, albeit with a slower midday pace.
Low Season
The low season in Xi'an spans from late autumn through winter, generally November to March. Temperatures drop significantly, often hovering around 0°C to 10°C, with some snowfall possible in January and February. When you land, the city feels quieter, with a crisp, sometimes chilly, air.
During these cooler months, daily life shifts indoors. The pace is more relaxed, and popular indoor attractions like the Shaanxi History Museum or the Bell and Drum Towers offer a comfortable escape from the cold. Lunar New Year celebrations in late January or February bring a unique festive energy, though the overall tourist numbers are lower, giving the city a more serene and local feel.
